Now we will measure over 5/8″ from the last marked line and make a second vertical line.Mark a line that extends just above the previously marked line and goes to the bottom of the fabric piece. ![]() Second, measure over 7/8″ from the left side of the piece.Begin by marking a horizontal line 6 1/4″ up from the bottom of the piece. Next, move to the inside pencil pouch piece.If it is larger than 1 1/8″ trim it down to 1 1/8″. I loved everything about this project, I think you will to.The fabric for this project was provided by Riley Blake Designs for my participation in the Ahoy Mermaids project tour. The zipper instructions are also very good, zippers can be tricky and the sewing method shown in the video is super quick and self-explanatory. The fusible is also an option, but I find these projects go more smoothly and look better with a fusible you can iron right onto the fabric, it becomes a much more durable component to your project. You can use softer interfacing for a pencil case you would just be using for pencil transport, but if you want your pencil case to stand up on the desk as an attractive holder, use heavy fusible interfacing. The sewing instructions are really easy to follow, you just cut out your outer fabric layer and stiff interfacing and start sewing. ![]()
